Knowledge, techniques and skills of handmade glass
Transhumance, the seasonal movement of herds
At the eighteenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Botswana last December, two items nominated by France and others were inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity:
- the knowledge, techniques and know-how of handmade glass, jointly submitted by France, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary and Spain;
- transhumance, the seasonal movement of flocks, jointly submitted by France, Albania, Andorra, Austria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania and Spain.
At the last UNESCO Executive Board meeting (13 to 27 March 2024), the GeoWorld Parks Committee added two French parks to the international network of new French Geoparks
The Armorique Geo Park, located at the western tip of France, facing the Atlantic Ocean, covers an area of 1,587 km². This remarkable site boasts an exceptional diversity of geological formations representative of the central Armorican Massif. The geological processes that have shaped this park illustrate the deep links between mankind and the Earth.
The Normandie-sur-Maine Geo Park, covering 2,650 km² in the north-west of France, straddling the regions of Normandy and Pays-de-la-Loire. With a remarkable diversity of rocks, geological phenomena and historical periods, this park offers a plunge into 600 million years of Earth history, illustrating the evolution of palaeoclimates through geological eras.
